■ Bausch + Lomb announced the availability of Biotrue ONEday, a daily disposable contact lens. Recently launched at the British Contact Lens Association’s Annual Conference, the lens is made from HyperGel, which the company calls “the next generation of daily disposable material.” The lens is initially being launched in Europe. ■ CareCredit will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year. Initially started by practices as a way to pay for dental implants, CareCredit is now accepted at 150,000 practices, such as veterinary, cosmetic, audiology, podiatry, ophthalmology and optometry practices, among others. ■ FocalCenter, a company that provides patient feedback for eyecare practices through its evidence-based eyecareScore, announced the company is an OfficeMate Certified Partner. Partners integrate seamlessly into OfficeMate and ExamWriter systems. ■ The book 201 Secrets of a High Performance Optometric Practice (CreateSpace, 2011) by OM Editorial Board member and columnist Bob Levoy, O.D., is back in print. This compilation presents 201 ready-to-use strategies and is available from amazon.com. ■ Merck announced the availability of the first preservative-free, fixed-dose combination therapy for lowering elevated intraocular pressure in patients who have open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to beta-blockers. The treatment, COSOPT PF (dorzolamide hydrochloride-timolol maleate ophthalmic solution), a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor with a beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent, was approved by the FDA in February. |
