Tracer
■ The LT-980 (HC) Tracer, from Santinelli International, features high-curve (HC) frame trace capability and uses a variable fulcrum stylus, which keeps the axis angle perpendicular to the frame at any height, the company says. The device’s software then calculates the effect that the curve has with regard to size, reproducing digitized frame data. Also, decreased stylus pressure eliminates the potential for distortion on thin and flexible frames. Further, the horizontal, vertical and rotational assemblies, which control and guide the stylus, are totally gear-driven, so the device’s stylus turet is protected from harmful debris. Finally, upon closing, the upper and lower frame sliders interlock, protecting the tracer’s mechanical core, so you’ll experience trouble-free operation, the company says.

Combination lab device
■ Mr. Orange, from Essilor Instruments USA, is a tracing, blocking and edging device that can tackle rimless and high wrap-around frames and drilling jobs. It can manage high curves up to base 9; its edging, grooving and drilling tools can incline up to 30°; and it enables the determination of the best lens level profile for each frame/lens combination depending on lens thickness. Also, the device virtually eliminates slippage and crazing despite material, shape or finish; and it can manage shape and drill point databases, the company says.

Artificial tears
■ Refresh Optive Advanced, from Allergan, is an over-the-counter lipid-enhanced tear that has the low blur and comfort of an aqueous tear for patients who have dry eye symptoms, the company says. The product reinforces the lipid layer, hydrates and increases volume to the aqueous layer, and it provides lubrication and protection to the mucin layer, Allergan says. The tear also affords osmo-protection to the corneal epithelial cells from excessive salt levels. Finally, the formulation does not separate, so the patient does not have to shake it prior to use, the company says.
