The Power of Professional Support
By Jessilin M. Quint, MBA, MS AOSA Executive Treasurer Indiana University, Class of 2014
The power of mentorship is often underestimated. The earliest of ancient leaders attributed their achievements to great advisors and mentorship isn’t a step to be overlooked in the building blocks of today’s success. The need for mentorship is present in our own optometric profession. Optometry students need involved, supportive ODs to emulate. Furthermore, many ODs often want to give back to students but don’t always know the best way to do so. The American Optometric Student Association’s (AOSA) Sustaining Membership provides an avenue for this vital professional relationship.
AOSA represents more than 6,000 students from the 23 optometry schools across North America. Its mission is to improve the visual welfare and health of the public, promote the profession of optometry and |enhance the education and welfare of optometry students. For 45 years, AOSA has been priming the next generation’s optometric professionals, leaders and colleagues.
AOSA’s Sustaining Membership is available to optometrists and optometric groups wanting to invest in the collective future of the profession. If you’ve ever wanted to be a role model for the next generation of optometric leaders, now is the time to rise to the occasion. Individual and Group Sustaining Memberships are available. Individual Sustaining Membership is $40 per year, a small price to invest in the future of our profession. Be a leader. Be a mentor. Invest in the profession. nOD
