TO SAY a LOT has happened in the last 50 years of optometry is an understatement. Several schools and colleges of optometry were founded; a slew of optometric organizations made their debut; landmarks in legislation occurred; research, advances in therapy and new diagnostic equipment changed the course of disease treatment and management; ophthalmic and contact lenses achieved significant milestones; major health care changes took place; and optometry gained recognition as a viable member of health care.
