- The FDA has set a PDUFA date of Sept. 8 for its decision on a new drug application for cetirizine ophthalmic solution 0.24% (ZERVIATE, Nicox S.A.), for the treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
- The FDA has approved ranibizumab injection 0.3 mg (Lucentis, Roche) for the monthly treatment of diabetic retinopathy. Roche.com .

- Bausch + Lomb’s ONE by ONE Recycling Program has collected more than 180,000 units of used contact lenses and blister packs. More than 1,800 optometry offices are signed up for the program, developed in collaboration with TerraCycle. Bausch.com .
- Carl Zeiss Meditec announced that small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) laser vision correction has been performed in the U.S. for the first time by Jon G. Dischler, M.D., Greenwood Village, Colo. SMILE is indicated for the reduction or elimination of myopia -1.00 D to -8.00D, with ≤ -0.50D cylinder and MRSE -8.25D in patients ages 22 years or older who have documentation of stable manifest refraction through the past year.
- CooperVision Inc. announced it has joined The Vision Council.
- Heidelberg Engineering has acquired Medisoft Limited, a UK-based EMR software company in the ophthalmology market.
- Imprimis Pharmaceuticals Inc. has entered into a licensing agreement for the exclusive worldwide rights for Klarity, a topical solution for patients who have dry eye disease. Under the terms of the agreement, Imprimis will pay Richard L. Lindstrom, M.D., the technology’s developer, an upfront fee, milestone payments and royalty payments. ImprimisRx.com .
