Jan. 24 to Jan. 27, 2019 ➜ Tropicana, Las Vegas
The Global Specialty Lens Symposium brings together 700 contact lens prescribing professionals who will benefit from 50 CE credit opportunities and 60 exhibitors with the latest contact lens designs and materials, manufacturing equipment, diagnostic instruments and dry eye treatments.
“GSLS is the premier contact lens event, attracting speakers, attendees and exhibitors from around the world who share their extensive knowledge and experience,” says OM Publisher Roger Zimmer.
To help you plan, OM has compiled a listing of exhibitors and symposium information on the following pages. Exhibit hall hours are on Jan. 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Jan. 25 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Jan. 26 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
BEYOND THE COURSE TITLES
To help shape your agenda at the Global Specialty Lens Symposium, which has more than 100 presentations to choose from, here are a few tips:
Start with the topic area or areas for which you are passionate, advises Edward S. Bennett O.D., M.S., F.A.A.O., planning committee member. For example, pre-conference day, Jan. 24, offers five tracks: GP Lens Institute, myopia, practice management, keratoconus and scleral lenses.
“The beauty of this is you have the opportunity to customize your interest,” Dr. Bennett says. “You can go track-to-track to customize your education to your interest level.”
From there, he recommends:
- Add areas of clinical practice where you’d like to bring back information to your practice or institution.
- Attend each general session, which will discuss the most important and timely topics.
- Consider paper sessions.
- For education on how to fit or troubleshoot a specific scleral lens, consider the industry-sponsored sessions.
Education Committee Chairman, Jason Nichols, O.D., M.S., M.P.H., kicked off the planning process by asking for submissions of topic ideas. A number of courses were accepted through this process. The committee, which includes Karen DeLoss, O.D., Patrick J. Caroline and Eef van der Worp, BOptom, Ph.D., also looks at national and international meetings and publications, and takes into account their own experiences, to shape an agenda.
Find Dr. Bennett presenting during sessions, including GP Multifocal Fitting and Problem Solving, on Thursday, including GP Multifocal Fitting and Problem Solving.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
GSLS offers 47 courses for 50 CE credits. Each attendee can participate in a maximum of 20 credits. Titles, times, content and more can all be found at bit.ly/GSLSagenda .
