→ Carl Abbott, O.D., of Mexico, Mo., took Chief Optometric Editor April Jasper’s April 2020 issue column “Trade Fear for Courage” to heart and learned something new: “Being a novice woodworker in my spare time, I decided to try my hand at making my first grandchild a gift. (She was born in April, which of course, proved difficult with the shutdown.) Instead of making a rocking horse, I thought I’d try making a rocking motorcycle. Needless to say, it tested my limited skills, and I learned a lot, but it was done in time for her to “ride” it at Christmas. The walnut used in the project was salvaged by my grandfather (also an O.D.) from an 1870’s Kansas farmhouse. I’m a fourth generation O.D.” OM
