EssilorLuxottica has announced the acquisition of Automation & Robotics (A&R), a Belgium-based company that specializes in advanced optical lens quality control systems. With the acquisition, EssilorLuxottica aims to achieve high quality standards and optimize service, according to a press release.

Founded in 1983, A&R has built a global reputation for its proprietary technologies in optical metrology—the use of light as a measurement technique. The company designs and manufactures automated systems that support production workflows and enhance the precision and efficiency of lens quality control in mass production facilities and prescription laboratories.

The integration of A&R’s high-precision automation technologies is expected to “support the needs of ophthalmic manufacturing, including those of new categories like wearables,” said Francesco Milleri, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, and Paul du Saillant, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at EssilorLuxottica in the press release.

The acquisition is a “bolt-on” transition.
