Spectacle Lenses Designed for Myopia Get FDA Nod
Essilor Stellest spectacle lenses, which both correct nearsightedness and slow its progression in children ages 6 to 12, have received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) marketing authorization, according to a company-issued press release.
The FDA’s decision to give its "yes" to marketing authorization was based on 2 years of clinical data showing that the Stellest lenses slowed myopia progression by 71% and reduced eye elongation by 53%. Reported adverse effects were visual disturbances, such as blur and halos. OM
