Hoya Vision Care has released a new sustainability update detailing progress under its “One Vision” program and outlining accelerated environmental and social commitments.
The update, published in the company’s “Sustainability in Action” report, highlights advancements since the program’s launch in 2023, including a 25% reduction in global carbon emissions compared to fiscal year (FY) 2021. The company also reported a 36% decrease in supply chain CO2 emissions since FY22, alongside reductions in energy use per lens (11%) and water consumption (11.5%), with 15% of water now recycled. In FY24, 30% of total energy used by the company was sourced from renewable electricity.
As part of its updated commitments, Hoya Vision Care announced a revised goal to achieve 100% renewable electricity across all operations by 2030, accelerating its previous 2040 target. The initiative aligns with Climate Group RE100, a global effort to transition companies to renewable power.
The One Vision program is structured around 3 core pillars: reducing environmental impact, supporting communities, and fostering a positive workplace. The latest report outlines continued efforts across these areas, including partnerships aimed at expanding access to vision care.
Through its collaboration with the Reach Project in India, the company has provided eyecare services to more than 85,000 households. It also supports the World Health Organization’s SPECS 2030 initiative, which focuses on improving access to eye care globally, and works with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness on campaigns such as World Sight Day, contributing to nearly 2 million pledges focused on children’s vision.
Looking ahead, Hoya Vision Care shares it plans to expand its community impact through increased access to screenings and care for children, particularly in addressing myopia. Additional goals include further reductions in supply chain emissions, expanded use of sustainable packaging and recycled materials, and a targeted reduction of more than 25% in water use per lens, alongside new recycling initiatives to limit production waste.
The company said the One Vision program will continue to guide its long-term efforts to integrate sustainability with business operations and global vision care access.
