Transitions Optical has opened applications for its 2026 Transitions Optical Advancement educational grant program, which supports students pursuing careers in optometry and opticianry in the United States. The company is accepting submissions through April 17 at 11:59 PM ET.
The program, administered in partnership with the Transitions Optical Advancement Board, will award five $1,000 grants to graduating high school seniors accepted into an accredited opticianry program or students currently enrolled in one, as well as 2 grants of $5,000 to first-year through third-year optometry students attending accredited US schools or colleges.
Applicants must be US citizens, permanent residents, or recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Grant funds are intended to help offset education-related expenses such as tuition, exam fees, textbooks, and other required course materials.
“The future of eye care depends on a diverse, passionate pipeline of professionals who are committed to innovation, education and patient-centered care,” said Arlene Barringer, senior marketing manager, communications and analytics, Transitions Optical. “Through the Transitions Optical Advancement grant program, we are proud to help remove financial barriers and invest in students who are eager to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and communities.”
In 2025, the program received 50 applications from students across the country, with grants awarded to aspiring optometrists and opticians to help cover educational costs. Application requirements include a headshot, a 1-page letter of recommendation written in 2026 by a teacher or professor, an official transcript, and a 3-minute audio response addressing 2 questions related to the applicant’s alignment with Transitions’ values and their perspective on inclusivity in the future of the optical industry.
